Napoles to share cell with murder, homicide convicts

Janet Lim-Napoles, alleged mastermind of the multibillion-peso pork barrel scam and recently convicted for serious illegal detention, will soon be sharing a cell with hardened criminals, a jail officer siad Friday.

At the sidelines of the hearing held by the Sandiganbayan Third Division at the Correctional Institution for Women (CIW) in Mandaluyong City, a ranking jail officer who refused to be named said Napoles is now under a 60-day quarantine period together with other convicts recently brought to the jail.

The jail officer said that during the 60-day quarantine period, Napoles and the other female prisoners will undergo routine medical, physical and mental health checkups and exercises.

The jail officer said once the quarantine period is over, Napoles will be placed in the CIW’s maximum security area with other convicts who committed crimes against persons.

“Yun kasing kaso niya (Napoles) na serious illegal detention, yun ay considered as crime against person, so, after the quarantine period, doon siya isasama sa iba pang prisoners na ang kaso ay crime against person din,” the jail officer said.

Crimes against persons include murder, homicide and serious physical assault, the officer said.

Asked if Napoles will be sharing a cell with prisoners convicted of the crimes mentioned, the jail office replied: “Yes”.

'Sana nakakatulog din ng mahimbing si Judge Alameda'

Meanwhile, Napoles was in a light mood when she faced the media before the start of the hearing on her petition for bail for a plunder case related to the pork barrel scam.

Garbed in the traditional orange gown for maximum security prisoners, Napoles said she was “okay”.

Napoles was transferred to CIW from Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig last Wednesday last week after the Makati Regional Trial Court Branch 150 found her guilty in the serious illegal detention case filed by her nephew and former employee Benhur Luy.

Napoles was sentenced to imprisonment of up to 40 years.

Napoles said that she is now in the process of “getting to know” her fellow prisoners recently brought to CIW, revealing that some of them were convicted of murder and homicide.

“Wala kaming kuwarto, naglalatag lang kami sa sahig ng hall, tabi-tabi lahat kami,” Napoles said.

Napoles admitted that it was quite humid in the hall where she is currently staying but she was able to sleep well.

“Nakakatulog naman ako ng maayos…Sana nakakatulog din ng mahimbing si Judge Alameda,” Napoles said.

“At sana magnilay-nilay siya," Napoles added.

Napoles was referring to Makati RTC Branch 150 Judge Elmo Alameda.

During her brief chat with the media before the start of the hearing, Napoles alleged that Alameda was promised promotion by some government prosecutors in exchange for her conviction. — JDS, GMA News
