WATCH: NPA rebel fumbles with grenade launcher, injures comrades
New People's Army rebels that recently attacked a police precinct in Mati, Davao Oriental weren't only caught on closed-circuit television camera as they tried to sneak on the cops.
The video also showed how one of them supposedly fumbled with his M203 grenade launcher, injuring three of his comrades and possibly killing an already wounded fellow rebel
"Medyo may mga baguhan talaga silang mga kasama kasi nga hindi masyadong marunong gumamit pa ng armas. Nagkaroon nga ng accidental fire... at ito ang tuluyang pumatay dun sa wounded na si alias Bryan," Philippine Army Spokesperson Lt. Col. Noel Detoyato told GMA News.
In the footage taken on Feb. 15, 50 NPA rebels were seen attacking the police station with high-caliber rifles and rocket-propelled grenades despite civilian presence in the area.
Policemen fended off the evening attack until the arrival of reinforcements from the Philippine Army, which prompted the rebel's to flee into three vans 30 minutes into clash.
According to the Army, the attack was part of a series of raids by the NPA as part of their 46th anniversary on March 29. —NB, GMA News
