Actor Philip Salvador found guilty of estafa

A Las Piñas regional trial court (RTC) on Friday found action star Philip Salvador guilty of estafa and sentenced him to four up to 20 years jail time, GMA 7's DZBB reported. Judge Elizabeth Guray of the Las Piñas RTC-Branch 202 found Salvador guilty of the charge while the latter's brother, Ramon, was acquitted due to insufficient evidence. The case stemmed on the complaint filed two years ago by Cristina Decena, Salvador's former live-in partner. She accused the Salvador brothers of duping her of $100,000. Philip and Ramon allegedly entered into a non-existent business deal using her money as capital. She said the amount was supposed to be the seed money for their planned venture, Philip Salvador Rights and Remittance International Limited in Hongkong. She said the remittance company was never put up. Decena also accused the actor of using the money in gambling activities in China. She earlier said she is willing to forgive Salvador if he agrees to make a compromise agreement. Decena also filed a P15-million estafa case against the actor. She said the money was supposed to be for the future of her five children. She said Salvador initially borrowed P5 million to pay off his debts after losing his vice mayoralty bid in Mandaluyong in 2001. The actor allegedly borrowed P10 million more in August 2001.-GMANews.TV
