PNP Academy graduating class members still want to join SAF

Members of the Philippine National Police Academy Lakandula Class of 2015 remained willing to join the PNP's Special Action Force even after the Mamasapano incident that left 44 police commandos dead, a report from GMA's "24 Oras" program said Wednesday.

According to class topnotcher Cadet Dennis Monroid Yuson Jr., who hails from General Santos City, they have discussed the option among themselves.

"(My father) introduced PNPA to me and where I've experienced different things and I have seen the true essence of public service."

The regimental commander or class baron Cadet Alexis Aberion said he had always planned to join the PNP-SAF even before the Mamasapano incident.

"My first year here in the academy I already decided to join the Special Action Force whenever graduation time comes," Aberion said.

Meanwhile, PNPA spokesman C/Insp. Ritchie Yatar said they had to explain to the cadets after the Mamasapano incident that it was a reality they were facing as part of their duty.
