BI arrests 73 foreigners in illegal online gambling operation

More than 70 foreigners from China, Taiwan, Indonesia, Malaysia, America, Australia, Singapore, and South Korea were arrested during a raid on a gambling den in Makati by the Bureau of Immigration (BI) Wednesday morning.

The 73 immigrants were found working at a three-storey office building, GMA News' "24 Oras" newscast reported.

A tip from an anonymous caller said the foreigners worked for a syndicate running illegal online gambling operations masquerading as a call center business.

A BI official said the alleged illegal aliens agents working for a company called Super 7 Ventures.

"This is in relation to our program, magsumbong. These foreigners are engaged in online betting, and that is illegal," Atty. Jose Carlitos Licas, BI Intel. Division Chief, said.

None of the immigrants had working permits and most only had tourist visas.

All 73 foreigners will undergo a verification process and will be subsequently deported from the Philippines.  — Rie Takumi/ELR, GMA News
