‘Tuwid na daan’ poll doesn’t define PNoy's past 4 years –Palace

President Benigno Aquino III's four-year-old administration should not be defined by the recent Pulse Asia survey showing that a significant number of Filipinos believed that he failed in delivering his "tuwid na daan" slogan, Malacañang said Monday.

Aquino's spokesman, Secretary Edwin Lacierda, said the survey results did not mean that Aquino failed to convince Filipinos on his anti-corruption slogan over the past years.

"This is the first time that the Pulse Asia has conducted this survey on the tuwid na daan. It would be difficult for us to contextualize. We don’t know kung ano ‘yung sentimyento ng ating taumbayan prior to this survey," Lacierda said.

He added that the Pulse Asia survey only provided a "snapshot" of the public's sentiment affected by issues during the survey period.

"Coming from the heels of the recent controversies, the recent difficulties that the administration is experiencing, siyempre magkakaroon ng impact ‘yan doon sa response ng mga tao," Lacierda said.

Results of the Pulse Asia survey released earlier in the day showed that 36 percent of Filipinos believed that Aquino failed in delivering his promise to follow his "tuwid na daan."

Twenty-nine percent of the respondents believed Aquino fulfilled his anti-corruption promise while 34 percent were still undecided, according to Pulse Asia.

Among the main controversies during the survey period were corruption allegations against Vice President Jejomar Binay and Philippine National Police chief Director General Alan Purisima.

Lacierda further said that the figures on the undecided respondents indicated that some Filipinos are still keeping an "open mind" on Aquino's campaign promise.

Last week, Pulse Asia released a survey showing that 48 percent of Filipinos believed in the government's fight against corruption. —KBK, GMA News
