Daet town, Makati City deemed most competitive local governments
Daet town in Camarines Norte and Makati City may be considered the most competitive local governments, based on an index drawn up by the National Competitiveness Council Philippines.
In its Cities and Municipalities Competitiveness Index (CMCI) 2014, the NCC said Daet edged General Trias (Cavite) and Kalibo (Aklan) with a score of 43.239109.
The CMCI said others in the top 10 municipalities included:
- Carmona, Cavite
- Nabunturan, Compostela Valley
- Lubao, Pampanga
- Isulan, Sultan Kudarat
- Polomolok, South Cotabato
- Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon
- Taytay, Rizal
- Nabunturan, Compostela Valley
- Lubao, Pampanga
- Isulan, Sultan Kudarat
- Polomolok, South Cotabato
- Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon
- Taytay, Rizal
Based on the index Daet ranked first in government efficiency, third in overall competitiveness, fourth in economic dynamism.
On the other hand, Makati City topped the list for cities with a score of 53.242174. Others in the top 10 cities list included:
- Cagayan de Oro City, Misamis Oriental
- Naga City, Camarines Sur
- Davao City, Davao del Sur
- Marikina City
- Iloilo City, Iloilo
- Cebu City, Cebu
- Manila
- Valenzuela City
- Parañaque City
- Naga City, Camarines Sur
- Davao City, Davao del Sur
- Marikina City
- Iloilo City, Iloilo
- Cebu City, Cebu
- Manila
- Valenzuela City
- Parañaque City
Makati topped the list in terms of economic dynamism and ranked fourth in terms of government efficiency and fourth in infrastructure.
Makati City Mayor Jejomar Erwin Binay Jr. attributed this to reforms by the city government to promote transparency.
“Our continuous efforts to modernize our services have resulted in the growing number of new investors and retention of current businesses that have, in turn, assured us of steady growth in our annual revenue collection,” he said.
“This recognition strongly motivates us to work harder at improving our performance as a local government unit in the face of the growing challenges presented by rapid urbanization and climate change," he added.
The CMCI measures competitiveness of local governments using 28 indicators under the categories of Economic Dynamism, Government Efficiency, and Infrastructure.
CMCI 2014 measured 136 cities and 399 towns, more than 122 cities and 163 towns last year.
Categories
Metro Manila swept the Economic Dynamism category with Parañaque, Makati, and Manila Cities topping the list.
For municipalities, the most competitive were Tanza (Cavite), General Trias (Cavite), and San Pedro (Laguna).
Topping the Government Efficiency category for cities were Naga (Camarines Sur), Iloilo (Iloilo), and Angeles (Pampanga).
For municipalities, the top three were Kalibo (Aklan), Tupi (South Cotabato), and San Mateo (Isabela).
In the Infrastructure category, the top cities were Davao (Davao del Sur), Cagayan de Oro (Misamis Oriental), and Marikina.
