Enrile goes to PGH for court-mandated heart check-up
Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile on Monday went through several medical examinations at the Philippine General Hospital (PGH) for the Sandiganbayan to determine his health condition in connection with his motion for hospital arrest pending before the anti-graft court.
Enrile is now detained Philippine National Police (PNP) General Hospital in Camp Crame for plunder and graft charges in connection with the multi-billion pork barrel fund scam.
According to a report by dzBB reporter Carlo Mateo, Enrile went through a two-dimensional cchocardiogram (2D Echo), electrocardiogram (ECG) and carotid vein computerized tomography scan (CT scan).
PGH director Dr. Jose Gonzalez said the doctors would submit to the Sandiganbayan Third Division the results of the examinations done on Enrile in three days.
The Third Division had earlier ordered Gonzalez and or any of his duly authorized representatives to conduct a medical exam on Enrile, and submit a recommendation "on whether there is imperative need" for Enrile's continued confinement at the PNP General hospital.
The order was in relation to the motion for hospital arrest filed by the camp of Enrile last month. It said that the heart condition of the 90-year-old senator could turn fatal if he was detained in a facility other than a hospital.
Enrile is set to undergo eye check-up at the Asian Eye Institute on Wednesday, the report said. He is also scheduled to return to the PGH on Thursday for further check-up.
Enrile's convoy left the PGH past 11 a.m. to return to the PNP hospital.
He and his co-accused are alleged to have amassed P172.8 million in kickbacks from 2004 to 2010 through non-government organizations put up by the alleged pork scam mastermind, Janet Lim-Napoles. —Elizabeth Marcelo/NB, GMA News
