PNP: Enough anti-riot teams to deal with mass actions on Independence Day


The Philippine National Police on Wednesday assured the public it will deploy enough anti-riot units to deal with mass actions timed for Independence Day on Thursday.
 
Also, the PNP said it will provide enough security in venues of Independence Day activities, including Naga City where President Benigno Aquino III will lead the flag-raising rites
 
PNP chief Director General Alan Purisima will join Aquino and Cabinet members in Naga City Thursday.
 
"The PNP will also provide maximum deployment of police officers and Civil Disturbance Management (for mass protests) in all places of engagement to ensure peace and order during the celebration of the Independence Day," the PNP said.
 
In Metro Manila, it said the National Capital Region Police Office will provide at least 1,000 personnel to secure events to be led by Vice President Jejomar Binay at Rizal Park.
 
Several groups had scheduled rallies for Thursday, including a group seeking accountability in the P10-billion pork barrel scam. The group had organized a rally-march from Bonifacio Shrine in Manila to Mendiola near Malacañan Palace.
 
Meanwhile, in Cavite, a Special Action Force unit is also tasked to augment K9 units during the Independence Day celebration at the Aguinaldo Shrine in Kawit.
 
Flag-raising
 
Also, the PNP said it will hold simultaneous flag-raising ceremonies in all police camps nationwide.
 
The flag-raising will be held at national headquarters at Camp Crame and at all 17 police regional offices. —Joel Locsin/KG, GMA News
