NDRRMC: Residents Storm Basyang displaced start returning home
With Tropical Storm Basyang (Kajiki) having weakened and no longer posing a threat, several residents affected by it started returning to their homes as of early Sunday, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said.
But the NDRRMC, in its 6 a.m. update, said several roads and bridges remained impassable in the wake of bad weather conditions brought by Basyang.
As of Sunday morning, the NDRRMC said Basyang had affected 9,105 families or 42,413 people in 176 villages in 38 towns and seven cities in nine provinces.
But the number of those displaced went down to 1,130 families or 5,646 people, who are now staying in 32 evacuation centers.
On Saturday, the NDRRMC said as many as 3,356 families or 18,131 people had been displaced.
The death toll remained at three as of Sunday, the NDRRMC said.
Basyang had made several landfalls but weakened into a low-pressure area Saturday night. A report on dzBB radio said it dissipated at midnight Saturday.
