AFP to give full military honors to late Chief of Staff Gen. Delfin Bangit

The Armed Forces of the Philippines will render full military honors to their late former Chief of Staff Gen. Delfin Bangit, who died Friday due to multiple organ failure.

The event will be held at Camp Aguinaldo on December 17 where Bangit's remains will be transferred, according to a news release from the AFP on Saturday noon.

To honor the former Chief of Staff, the AFP placed their flags on half-staff on Saturday.

Bangit's legacy as the 39th AFP chief of staff was his campaign against various rebel groups in Southern Philippines, including New People's Army, as well as the bandit Abu Sayyaf Group.

He was also in-charge of public security amid controversies during the first ever automated national elections in the Philippines in 2010.

Before he became AFP Chief of Staff, Bangit was the commander of the Presidential Security Group and head of the Armed Forces Intelligence Service.

He was then appointed by former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo as Chief of the AFP in March 2010.

He retired early in June 2010 after being in service for over 36 years.
