NDRRMC: 213k affected by typhoon; mobile phone signals restored in some areas
Nearly 213,000 people have been affected by Typhoon Vinta (Krosa) even as mobile phone signals have been restored in some parts of Northern Luzon, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said Sunday.
In its 6 a.m. update, the NDRRMC said Vinta had affected 42,703 families or 212,927 people in 507 villages in 26 towns and one city in five provinces.
Of these, 299 families or 1,799 people were displaced but are being served outside evacuation centers.
As of Sunday, the NDRRMC said mobile phone signals of Smart had been restored in Batanes and most of Apayao.
Earlier, the NDRRMC said signals of Smart and Globe had been intermittent in Cagayan province.
It added 229 communication lines had been affected in Ilocos Norte.
The death toll remained at three, with two still missing.
Meanwhile, the NDRRMC said Vinta had destroyed 3,484 houses and damaged 22,877 others in Ilocos Norte, Cagayan and Apayao.
Government has so far extended P1.445 million in relief assistance in Cagayan Valley and Cordillera. — LBG, GMA News
