NDRRMC: 104k affected by typhoon, power restoration continues


More than 104,000 people were affected by Typhoon Vinta (Krosa) even as efforts continued on Saturday to restore power to parts of Northern Luzon where the typhoon passed, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said.

In its 6 a.m. Saturday update, the NDRRMC also said at least six roads and three bridges in Cordillera and Cagayan Valley were affected.

The NDRRMC said Vinta affected 24,123 families or 104,829 people in 203 villages in 26 towns and one city in five provinces in Ilocos, Cagayan Valley and Cordillera.

Of these, 299 families or 1,794 people were displaced.

Power was restored in some parts of Apayao, while power was 70 percent restored in Laoag City in Ilocos Norte and 85 percent restored in other parts of Ilocos Norte.

The NDRRMC said power is being restored to parts of Cagayan Valley as well.

The estimated damage to Ilocos and Cagayan Valley went up to P29,891,964.08, including P1,345,000 in infrastructure and P28,546,964.08 in agriculture. — LBG, GMA News
