Typhoon Labuyo to bring 150 kph winds, intense rainfall to Luzon


Tropical cyclone Labuyo (international codename: Utor) "intensified into a typhoon" and is expected to bring heavy to intense rainfall, PAGASA weather forecasters said late Saturday.
 
In its 11:00 p.m. severe weather bulletin, PAGASA said Labuyo had "maximum winds of 120 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of 150 kph" and was moving in a west-northwest path to Luzon at 19 kph.

The "heavy to intense" rainfall of 7.5 to 25 millimeters per hour is forecast within the 600-kilometer diameter of the typhoon.
 
By Sunday evening, Labuyo is forecast to be 220 kilometers east of Baler, Aurora and by Monday evening, the typhoon will be 90 kilometers west of Sinait, Ilocos Sur.
 
Areas placed under Public Storm Warning Signal No. 2 are:

  • Quirino
  • Polillo Island
  • Camarines Norte
  • Camarines Sur
  • Catanduanes

These areas were alerted against flashfloods, landslides and storm surges along coastal zones.
 
PAGASA raised Public Storm Warning Signal No. 1 over these areas:

  • Cagayan including Calayan and Babuyan Group of Islands

PAGASA said Labuyo will enhance the southwest monsoon, which will bring moderate to occasionally heavy rains over the rest of southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.
