PNP: Uniform change won't mean added cost to taxpayers

The Philippine National Police on Friday reassured the public that its plan to change uniform designs for its personnel will not entail additional taxpayers' money.

In a radio interivew, PNP spokesman Senior Superintendent Reuben Sindac also said the new uniform is not likely to make its official debut until 2014 at the earliest.

"Ang uniform kasama sa allowance nila. Doon din kukunin yan, P14,000 kada pulis, may replacement clothing allowance," Sindac told dzBB radio, when asked if there may be added expenses for designing and making the new uniforms.

He said each police personnel has a replacement clothing allowance of P14,000 for every three years.

The replacement allowance is due to the "normal wear and tear" of uniforms, he pointed out.

Sindac also said the redesign of the uniform may include a change in the materials used, to make the uniform more comfortable.

"Yung uniporme nasa drawing stage pa lang, hopefully maka-submit kami sa Napolcom before the end of the year," he said. — RSJ, GMA News
