Walang Pasok: High tide prompts Obando, Malabon barangay to cancel classes
(Updated 7:44 a.m.) - Classes in Obando town in Bulacan province, and Barangay Dampalit in Malabon City were suspended Monday due to possible floods from the high tide.
Mayor Orencio Gabriel told radio dzBB that there was a chance the suspension may last until Wednesday due to the tides in the coming days.
"Wala po, lahat, all levels, private and public," he said in an interview on dzBB radio.
Citing information reaching him, Gabriel said flood waters may reach up to 4.9 feet.
National weather service PAGASA said the high tide would reach 1.46m.
However, Gabriel said said that despite the expected flooding, there was no plan to evacuate residents in affected areas.
Still, he said motorists may have a hard time navigating the streets starting 8:30 a.m. when the high tide comes in.
Earlier, Malabon City suspended classes in three schools in Barangay Dampalit.
City information officer Bong Padua said the suspension of classes covered Academia de Santo Rosario, Dampalit Elementary School and Dampalit Elementary School 1. — DVM, GMA News
