Nancy Binay on her hubby, her surname, and daddy's health

In contrast with her evasiveness to the media during the campaign period, Senator-elect Nancy Binay is all over TV program these days, from news programs to fashion shows to late-night talk shows.

In one of her recent TV appearances, the controversial daughter of Vice President Jejomar Binay guested on GMA News TV's “Tonight With Arnold Clavio” to have some small post-election talk with the host.

In the conversation, Binay talked about her love story, her father's health, and why she used her father's surname instead of her husband's during the campaign.

“Unang una, siyempre, let's face it, walang boboto sa akin pag Angeles 'yung ginamit ko,” Binay said, stressing that she was not the only candidate who banked on their popular surnames during the campaign.

“At 'di lang naman ako yung gumawa nun, in fact si Grace Poe, nakita niyo naman, nung sa survey ginagamit 'yung Llamanzares, nahirapan siyang pumasok sa Top 12,” she said, referring to the daughter of the late actor Fernando Poe Jr. who garnered the most number of votes among senatorial candidates in the May 13 elections.

Binay also recalled in the show how she met her husband, Jose Benjamin Angeles, whose family owns a construction company. She said she met him through his mother.

“Maganda 'yung love story namin, kasi 'yung mommy ko at 'yung mommy niya mahilig sa halaman. Eh nakita nung mommy niya [na] ang galing kong mag empake ng halaman, so niligawan ako nung mommy niya. May pagka-torpe ['yung asawa ko],” Binay said.

She also denied rumors that her father is in bad health and in fact described him as a workaholic.

“Nasa isang bahay lang kami. Pag kami naga-out of town, ako nagpapahinga ako pero siya tuloy-tuloy ang trabaho niya,” Binay said. — Patricia Denise Chiu/KBK, GMA News
