Mitos Magsaysay concedes defeat in senatorial race

Zambales Rep. Mitos Magsaysay has conceded from the 2013 senatorial race. In a statement released Wednesday, Magsaysay said that while she did not meet the number of votes needed to get a seat in the national government, she is "happy" that she was able to "touch base with Filipinos from all walks of life during the campaign and learn their plight." She added that "what Team UNA has taken away from the experience will hopefully result in legislation that will answer the needs of the people." According to partial and unofficial results, Magsaysay is ranked 21st among 33 candidates with 4,044,179 votes, for which she said she was thankful. But Magsaysay said that while she is preparing to be a private citizen, she will "not stop pushing reforms." "The journey does not stop here. The Philippines has a long way to go and we need to be united in meeting the challenges that regular Filipinos have to deal with – low wages, education, lack of employment, inflation – these are the issues that matter  and these are the issues that must be addressed," she said. — Kimberly Jane Tan/BM, GMA News
