LPA nears GenSan; landslide, flood warnings up over Bicol, Samar, Mindanao

A potential cyclone —a low-pressure area (LPA)— hovered near General Santos City Tuesday afternoon, even as state weather forecasters warned of possible flash floods and landslides in parts of Bicol, Samar, and Mindanao in the next 24 hours.

In its 5 p.m. bulletin, PAGASA said the LPA was estimated at 180 km southeast of General Santos City, embedded along the inter-tropical convergence zone.

PAGASA also said the northeast monsoon is still affecting Northern Luzon.

"Bicol region, the provinces of Samar and Maguindanao, SOCCSKSARGEN, Davao region and the Zamboanga Peninsula will have cloudy skies with moderate to heavy rain showers and thunderstorms, which may trigger flash floods and landslides," it said.

It added Metro Manila, Calabarzon, Mimaropa and the rest of Visayas and Mindanao will have cloudy skies with light to moderate rain showers and thunderstorms.

The rest of Luzon will be partly cloudy with brief rain showers or thunderstorms, it added.

Moderate to strong winds blowing from the northeast to north will prevail throughout the archipelago and the coastal waters will be moderate to rough. — TJD, GMA News
