Light rain expected across PHL as 'Amihan' brings colder weather

Rain is expected to fall over parts of the country Wednesday even as temperatures are expected to go down in the coming days due to the strengthening northeast monsoon.

 

"Cool morning temperatures were felt today in many areas in Luzon due to the prevailing northeast monsoon or 'amihan'. The monsoon surge is expected to be short-lived with the easterlies expected to be the dominant airstream again over the entire archipelago before the weekend," said GMA resident meteorologist Nathaniel "Mang Tani" Cruz.

 

PAGASA forecaster Manny Mendoza said the inter-tropical convergence zone is affecting Palawan and Mindanao while the northeast monsoon is affecting Northern Luzon.

 

"Lalamig lalo na kapag malakas na ang amihan," Mendoza said in an interview on dzBB radio.

 

For now, he said Metro Manila is experiencing temperatures of as low as 22.5 degrees Celsius, and a high of 32 degrees Celsius.

 

Meanwhile, PAGASA said Palawan, Negros Oriental and Mindanao will be cloudy with occasional light to moderate rain showers or thunderstorms on Wednesday.

 

In its 5 a.m. bulletin, it also said Ilocos, Cordillera and Cagayan Valley regions will have light rain.

PAGASA said Metro Manila and the rest of the country will be partly cloudy with isolated brief rain showers or thunderstorms mostly in the afternoon or evening.

 

Moderate to strong winds blowing from northeast will prevail over Luzon and Eastern Visayas and the coastal waters along these areas will be moderate to rough.

 

Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate coming from the northeast with slight to moderate seas.

 

Gale warning

 

PAGASA also said strong to gale-force winds are associated with the northeast monsoon.

 

"Fishing boats and other small seacraft are advised not to venture out into the sea while larger sea vessels alerted against big waves," it said. — TJD, GMA News
