Over 4,000 passengers stranded due to TS 'Ofel' — NDRRMC


Some 4,232 passengers were stranded due to bad weather conditions brought by Tropical Storm Ofel (Son-Tinh), the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said Wednesday afternoon.   In a noon report posted on its website, the NDRRMC said there were also 173 rolling cargoes, 57 vessels and 28 motor bancas stranded in Metro Manila, Eastern Visayas and Northern Mindanao due to Ofel. These included:  

  • 1,346 passengers in one vessel in Manila
  • 13 rolling cargoes in Ormoc
  • 27 rolling cargoes in Maasin, Southern Leyte
  • five rolling cargoes in Bato, Southern Leyte
  • 35 passengers and 21 rolling cargoes in Liloan, Southern Leyte
  • 261 passengers and 36 rolling cargoes in Benit, San Ricardo, Southern Leyte
  • 30 passengers in Tacloban
  • nine passengers in Catbalogan, Samar
  • 27 passengers in Calbayog
  • 610 passengers in Cebu
  • 912 passengers in Tagbilaran, Bohol
  • 171 passengers in Dumaguete, Negros Oriental
  • 209 passengers in Macabalan Wharf
  • 349 passengers in Surigao Port
  • 273 passengers in Butuan
  An earlier report by radio dzBB's Carlo Mateo said the Philippine Coast Guard had barred ships from leaving port in areas with bad weather conditions due to Ofel. — KBK, GMA News
