Binga Dam keeps gate open; La Mesa Dam water level rises

Binga Dam in Benguet kept one gate open Thursday morning to release excess water, even as Typhoon Lawin (Jelawat) moved closer toward northern Luzon.

However, PAGASA said that as of Thursday morning, the gate was open at 0.3 meter, slightly narrower than the 0.5 meter on Wednesday.

As of 6 a.m. Thursday, PAGASA said Binga's water level went down to 571.89 meters from 572.34 meters as of Wednesday.

This was below the dam's 575-meter high water level, according to data from the monitoring of major reservoirs in Luzon.

On the other hand, water levels at La Mesa Dam in Quezon City rose to 79.35 meters Thursday from 79.34 meters Wednesday, close to the spilling level of 80.15 meters.

Since Tuesday, other major dams in Luzon had closed their gates.

Closing their gates were Angat and Ipo Dams in Bulacan, as well as Magat Dam in the Ifugao-Isabela area.

While the water level at Ipo Dam in Bulacan rose to 100.75 meters from 100.20 meters on Wednesday, its gates remained closed. The 100.75-meter level is above the dam's high water level of 100.20 meters. — RSJ, GMA News
