Igme out of PAR by Wednesday morning, says PAGASA in updated forecast

Weather shall improve for Northern Luzon provinces as Typhoon Igme moves away from the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), according to the state weather bureau.

Although may mga pag-ulan hanggang Friday," PAGASA weather forecaster Nikos Peñaranda said on "News To Go".

PAGASA had earlier estimated Igme to be out of the PAR by Thursday, but the agency revised its forecast based on an analysis of more recent data.

At 10:00am, Aug. 28, the eye of Typhoon Igme (Tiemben) was seen at 285km north of Basco, Batanes, said PAGASA.

Meanwhile, Peñaranda explained that Typhoon Igme is expected to leave PAR Wednesday morning.

As such, Peñaranda said that Batanes group of islands is still under Public Storm Warning Signal Number 2. This area should expect winds of 60 to 100 kph within 24 hours.

Calayan group of islands remain to be affected by the typhoon as Public Storm Warning Signal Number 1 is hoised upon this area. The Calayan group should expect winds of 30 to 60 kph within 36 hours, together with intermittent rains.

Peñaranda also said that people in the affected areas should also expect floods.
Fair weather for Central Luzon
Meanwhile, the weather forecaster said that Central Luzon is only slightly affected and should expect generally fair weather throughout the week except for occassional rainshowers as Typhoon Igme pulls the Southwest monsoon.

PAGASA also issued a gale warning for most of the coastal areas of Luzon.

Meanwhile, Peñaranda said that PAGASA is currently monitoring a possible weather disturbance located near Guam. However, he noted that it is not expected to develop into a low pressure area within the week. — TJD, GMA News
