Pulse Asia: Lowest ever Aquino, administration approval, trust ratings
Pollster Pulse Asia released in its website on Monday its “Performance and Trust Ratings of President Benigno S. Aquino III and the Performance Ratings of the National Administration on Selected Issues” survey which indicated that though Aquino continues to enjoy the approval and trust of a majority of Filipinos, his approval and trust ratings, including his first double-digit disapproval rating, are at their lowest since Aquino was first performance-rated by Pulse Asia in October 2010.
According to the Pulse Asia poll, the majority of Filipinos, 67%, continue to approve of Aquino’s performance while 65% continue to trust the President, only a minor difference from presidential performance and trust ratings taken between March and May 2012.
However, Aquino recorded an overall disapproval rating of 10%, his lowest since coming to the presidency.
Furthermore, Pulse Asia said that Aquino’s “national approval rating has been gradually declining since October 2010". In October 2010, when Aquino was first rated, he received an approval rating of 79% and a disapproval rating of 3%.
Also, ambivalence towards Aquino’s trustworthiness has risen to 25% from October 2010’s 17%.
The administration’s rating
The survey also revealed that the Aquino administration managed to receive a positive approval rating in three out of 11 national issues: the national administration’s efforts to fight corruption in government (58%) fight criminality (56%) and enforce the law equally on all citizens (52%).
The Pulse Asia survey went on to say that plurality approval scores are recorded on the issues of promoting peace (50%) and increasing the pay of workers (42%). However, the national administration only scores a plurality rating (40%) on the only national issue deemed urgent by a majority of Filipinos, inflation, at 54%.
Meanwhile, most people are undecided when it comes to the Aquino administration’s efforts to control population growth, at 43%.
Equal numbers of people are either undecided on or disapprove of the administration’s efforts on strengthening public trust in government and its officials (40% and 43%), creating more jobs (41% and 37%), and protecting the environment (41% and 36%).
There is a three-way split regarding the public’s opinion on the administrations’ anti-poverty initiatives with 36% being ambivalent on the matter, 35% expressing outright disapproval and 29% having a positive opinion regarding the administration’s performance on this issue.
Pulse Asia conducted the nationwide survey from May 20-26, 2012. Face-to-face interviews were conducted with 1,200 participants, all of whom are adults 18 years of age and older. The survey has a ± 3% error margin. — DVM, GMA News
