PHL, Laos sign four agreements to strengthen cooperation
To strengthen the cooperation between the Philippines and Laos, the two countries on Thursday signed four agreements during the first day of the three-day state visit of Lao People’s Democratic Republic Prime Minister Thongsing Thammavong.
President Benigno Aquino III and Thongsing witnessed the signing of the following:
- An agreement between the Department of Foreign Affairs’ Foreign Service Institute and Laos Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Institute of Foreign Affairs, which aims to establish linkages and strengthen cooperation between the FSI and IFA as well as provide for the exchanges of information relating to their respective programs and seminars and on developments in the fields of diplomacy, international relations and political science. The agreement was signed by Foreign Affairs Secretary Albert Del Rosario and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr. Thongloun Sisoulith.
- An agreement between the Philippine Sports Commission and Lao Ministry of Education and Sports for sports development on the basis of reciprocity and mutual benefit. This was signed by PSC chairman Ricardo Garcia and Vice Minister Sengdeuane Lachantaboune of the Ministry of Education and Sports.
- An agreement between the University of the Philippines-Los Baños and the National University of Laos to develop academic and education cooperation and promote mutual understanding between the two universities. It was signed by UPLB chancellor Rex Victor Cruz and Vice Minister Sengdeuane Lachantaboune.
- A Cooperation Agreement between the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) and Lao National Chamber of Commerce and Industry aimed at strengthening the economic and trade ties between the two countries. This was signed by PCCI president Miguel Varela and Philippine-Lao Business Council chairman Antonio Chua, and LNCCI president Kisaana Vongsay, and Lao-Philippine Business Council chair Daovone Phachanthavong.
