Militants plan march to Mendiola vs. oil price hike

Following yet another round of fuel price hikes this week, militant groups are planning to march to Mendiola Bridge near Malacañang this Friday.

The militants accused the Aquino administration of coddling oil companies and tolerating their price hikes, radio dzBB's Carlo Mateo reported.

Friday's march will show the anger not just of transport groups but also of urban poor and other sectors affected by fuel price hikes, the dzBB report quoted organizers of the march as saying.

On the other hand, the militants scored President Benigno Aquino III for virtually rejecting their call for a legislated P125 wage hike to cope with rising costs of living.

Last week, militant transport groups led a series of protest actions against fuel price hikes, on the same week oil firms appeared to accommodate an appeal from the Department of Energy not to raise prices of their products.

But earlier Tuesday, at least four oil firms raised prices of their products. –KG, GMA News
