NCRPO readies security for Gloria Arroyo at Iggy's funeral Mass
Metro Manila police have drawn up security measures for former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo when she attends the funeral Mass for the late Negros Occidental Rep. Ignacio "Iggy" Arroyo Jr. on Friday.
While he declined to give details, Metro Manila police chief Director Alan Purisima said the security is adequate, radio dzBB's Benjie Liwanag Jr. reported.
Purisima said the security arrangements will include bringing Mrs. Arroyo from the Veterans Memorial Medical Center in Quezon City to the Arroyo ancestral residence in La Vista Subdivision also in Quezon City.
Mrs. Arroyo, now a congresswoman representing the second district of Pampanga, has been under hospital arrest since Nov. 18 last year, on charges of electoral sabotage.
The dzBB report quoted Purisima as saying that there will not likely be special security arrangements since Mrs. Arroyo is not likely to join the funeral procession to the North Cemetery in Manila.
Rep. Arroyo died in London last January but his body was brought to the Philippines only in late February.
His remains were brought to Negros Monday night but will be brought back later this week, and then buried at the North Cemetery. — RSJ, GMA News
