PNP arrests 114 holiday revelers


At least 114 "rowdy" revelers were arrested in holiday-related incidents from December 21 to the first day of 2012, the Philippine National Police said.   In a news release posted late Sunday on its website, the PNP said at least 15 of these cases involved "gun-related offenses."   “Overall, the entire holiday season was celebrated under generally peaceful and orderly conditions," PNP chief Director General Nicanor Bartolome said.    The PNP said the 114 offenders were involved in 408 medical emergencies that killed one person and injured 422 others.   Citing figures from the PNP National Operations Center from December 21 until 2 p.m. Jan. 1, Bartolome said the 114 included 15 apprehended for gun-related offenses and 99 for violation of the firecracker law.   Most of the 99 were found selling or in were possession of prohibited fireworks and pyrotechnic devices.   Also, the PNP monitored 357 firecracker-related incidents resulting in one casualty and injuries to 377 other victims.   It added at least three fires caused by firecrackers caused damage to property worth P994 million.   Stray bullets   Police field units reported a total of 33 stray bullet incidents since December 21 where 34 victims were injured.   Bartolome ordered investigating units to investigate the stray-bullet incidents even as he vowed swift and decisive police action against 15 persons arrested for illegal discharge of firearms. — ELR, GMA News
