'Quiel' still strong, hovers over West Philippine Sea

Typhoon “Quiel" (Nalgae) reached the West Philippine Sea Saturday evening after cutting across northern Luzon since its morning landfall, but the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the cyclone is still strong enough to keep storm signals hoisted over 20 provinces. Quiel still packs winds swirling at 150 – 185 kilometers per hour (kph) and continues to cause heavy rains over much of northern Luzon, more so over the catchment areas of the dams of Angat in Bulacan, San Roque in Pangasinan, and Magat in Isabela. PAGASA warned of storm surges and big waves on the western seaboard of Luzon, as well as scattered to widespread rains from the typhoon-enhanced Southwest Monsoon.
