Palace to speed up extradition of Garcia’s family

Press Secretary Ignacio Bunye on Thursday said the government would make use of its legal agreements with other countries to extradite family members of retired general Carlos Garcia to face charges against them. Bunye added that the arrest order for Garcia’s wife and children should serve as warning to other officials who maybe engaged in corrupt activities. Bunye said public funds are for the people and not for the pockets some officials. “The court has spoken with clarity and decisiveness on this plunder case…. This landmark decision proves that no one is above the law and the fight against corruption under the Arroyo administration is relentless," he said. Garcia, former deputy chief of staff for comptrollership, was charged with plunder for allegedly pocketing millions of public funds. –GMANews.TV
