LPA intensifies into tropical depression 'Kiko'
A low-pressure area (LPA) east northeast of Luzon in the northern Philippines developed into a tropical depression Monday morning, with state weather forecasters naming it "Kiko." The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said "Kiko" was located 1,070 km east of Basco, Batanes as of 10 a.m. "This disturbance is expected to enhance the southwest monsoon and bring occasional rains over Luzon and Western Visayas," Pagasa said in its 11 a.m. advisory. It said "Kiko" packed maximum winds of 55 kph near the center and was moving west northwest at 7 kph. By Tuesday morning, "Kiko" is expected to be 870 km east of Basco, Batanes. By Wednesday morning it is expected to be 560 km east of Basco, Batanes. By Thursday morning it is expected to be 570 km northeast of Basco, Batanes.
