NBI findings on Etong case out Thursday

MANILA, Philippines - The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) will release on Thursday its findings on the death of Trinidad “Trina" Etong, wife of broadcaster Teodoro “Ted" Failon. NBI director Nestor Mantaring will personally announce the results of their investigation in a press briefing. “I will announce officially the result of the findings of the NBI," Mantaring told reporters in a chance interview Wednesday. Etong was found with a gunshot wound in her head inside the bathroom of their Quezon City home last April 15. Failon rushed her to the New Era General Hospital where she succumbed to cranial injuries the next day. Failon said his wife committed suicide over some financial problems, but this was put under suspicion after Quezon City police investigators learned that he had ordered his househelpers to clean the scene of the shooting incident. The police filed obstruction of justice complaints against Failon and his helpers, but the Quezon City Prosecutors Office junked this due to lack of probable cause. The NBI took over the investigation amid a public outcry over alleged mishandling of the Quezon City Police District on the Etong case. It has earlier said that results of the initial investigation were pointing toward the suicide angle. - GMANews.TV
