NBI to give Failon time to grieve over wife's death

MANILA, Philippines - The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) will give broadcaster Ted Failon (Mario Teodoro Etong) enough time to grieve over his wife Trinidad's death before inviting him to shed light on the incident. Radio dzBB's Carlo Mateo reported that NBI Special Task Force chief Arnel Dalumpines said they will wait for the cremation and burial of Mrs. Failon before inviting the broadcaster for investigation. But Dalumpines said they will also subpoena four members of Failon's household who gave statements before the Quezon City Police Department (QCPD). He also said they will question the household members on whether a certain Delfin Lee entered the Failon residence on the day Trinidad was reportedly shot dead. The NBI now has the lead role in the investigation, a week after QCPD police were accused of heavy-handed treatment of Failon's relatives and household members. Meanwhile, NBI Director Nestor Mantaring promised a smooth continuation of the investigation especially after the QCPD turns over the evidence it has so far gathered. "Kung itinu-turnover sa atin ng kapulisanang investigation we will conduct the necessary investigation, we will continue the investigation [If they will turn over the lead role to us, we will conduct the necessary investigation, we will continue the investigation]," he said in an interview on dzBB. When asked if there will be any delay in the investigation due to the turnover, he said, "wala naman sigurong dahilan [There is no reason for delay]." - GMANews.TV
