Mayor Lim eyes re-election in 2010


MANILA, Philippines - Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim on Wednesday disclosed his bid for re-election in next year’s national elections. Asked if he would run again for the city’s top executive post, the former senator said, “Yes na Yes!" He however said that he would seek re-election only if his constituents still want him. “If my constituents still want me, then I will run again this coming elections. But if my constituents do not want me to run anymore, I would pack up my things and leave the office," Lim said at a press conference held at the Manila City Hall. Lim, a former police officer, was elected mayor in 2007. Before that, he served as a senator from 2004 to 2007 and Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) secretary from 1998 to 2000. He also served as the head of then Western Police District and retired from the police service with the rank of police major general on December 21, 1989 Lim ran and won as mayor of Manila on May 11, 1992 and was re-elected on May 8, 1995 with the highest majority in the history of the city’s politics. He was appointed director of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) on December 22, 1989. - GMANews.TV
