Manila's Fusion Alley faces complaints of foul odor, noise 

Fusion Alley, a famed street market filled with affordable food made famous by social media influencers, is facing complaints from Manila residents of foul odor, noise, and filth.

In a 24 Oras report from Mark Salazar on Thursday, Fusion Alley is composed of dozens of street vendors and small businesses. Many of them also came from Ugbo in Tondo, another food bazaar in Tondo that did not last.

While the initiative has attracted many students and food enthusiasts, the local residents have expressed concerns. A resident who asked to be anonymous said that while there were efforts to clean, the smell in the neighborhood has changed.

The food vendors said they are doing their best to keep their stalls clean, with government personnel also helping to keep the area tidy.

In a media forum, Manila Mayor Isko Moreno denied the area was dirty, saying that he was having the area cleaned constantly.

The vendors are hoping that Fusion Alley would not be closed or at the very least, they are given a more permanent place to stay.

Moreno later held a consultation with both the complainants and the vendors of Fusion Alley, where he said he hoped to find a compromise between the two sides.

The mayor said he told the vendors to keep the area clean so as to not inconvenience the community.

“Malinaw ang aking bilin: kapag nakita kong marumi ang paligid ay kaagad ko silang ipapasara,” Moreno warned in a Facebook post.
