PNP identifies 2 suspects in Mima Alicia killing

The Philippine National Police (PNP) has identified two suspects in the killing of vlogger Alicia “Mima Alicia” Lipata, according to a report by GMA News' Jun Veneracion on Balitanghali on Tuesday.

PNP chief Police General Melencio Nartatez Jr. told reporters that authorities have identified the suspects, adding that the police are “hot on their tracks”.

The suspects were identified 24 hours after the shooting incident using the CCTV footage in the area.

One of the suspects has already been implicated in other criminal cases, but the PNP did not disclose what these charges were.

The PNP has yet to identify a mastermind, but Nartatez said that the suspects were likely hired to kill Lipata.

“The strongest motive there is they are hired by a syndicate to kill them,” Nartatez said.

Lipata was shot by assailants outside her home in Caloocan City on July 17. Her live-in partner was also wounded during the attack.

The vlogger was known for her political commentary, openly supporting President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and criticizing Vice President Sara Duterte and her allies.

Nartatez said that her job as a political vlogger could have had something to do with her death, but investigators are still probing the incident.

The Northern Police District has formed a special investigation task group to conduct a focused investigation into Lipata’s death. —Jean Mangaluz/AOL, GMA News
