8 EPD cops relieved, under restrictive custody after alleged extortion try

The Eastern Police District (EPD) said Friday eight of its police officers were relieved from their posts and placed under restrictive custody after multiple alleged violations in implementing an arrest warrant for a Chinese individual.

According to a report by Mark Makalalad on Dobol B TV, the cops launched an operation on April 2 against the Chinese at an exclusive subdivision in Las Piñas City.

Las Piñas falls under the jurisdiction of the Southern Police District (SPD), and not under the EPD.

EPD chief Police Brigadier General Villamor Tuliao said the involved cops did not coordinate and did not wear body cameras during the operation.

The police officers allegedly tried to extort P12 million from the Chinese in exchange for his freedom. Also, they allegedly took a huge amount of money and some belongings, including a luxury watch from the victim.

Administrative and criminal cases are set to be filed against the police officers. — Joviland Rita/ VDV, GMA Integrated News
