Driver gets seven bullets in 'road rage' shooting in QC
A driver was killed after he was shot repeatedly by a policeman in an apparent case of road rage in Quezon City.
According to Emil Sumangil's report on "24 Oras," a witness from one of the vehicles said they were on their way home to Bulacan when the incident occurred between the two utility vehicles on Tandang Sora Avenue in Barangay Old Balara, Quezon City around 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
“Pagkagitgit, yung driver rin po namin nagalit. Ginitgit din niya ng konti. Tapos po umabante kami tapos hinarang na kami... Pagharang po sa amin bumaba yung driver tapos yung driver po namin hindi bumaba,” said the witness.
(When they were squeezing past our car, our driver got angry. They hit him back a little bit. We moved forward and we got blocked When that happened, the other driver went down but our driver didn’t.)
The witness added that the suspect punched their driver before pulling out a gun and shooting him multiple times.
“Sinuntok niya po yung driver namin. May dala na po siya noong baril, sabay po putok. Hindi na po nakapalag. Inubos na po halos lahat ng bala,” the witness added.
(He punched our driver. He had a gun at the time, and he just shot. We weren’t able to fight back. He finished up almost all the bullets.)

The victim was dead on arrival at the hospital after being hit 7 times with 9-millimeter bullets, while another victim from his vehicle was rushed to the hospital for an operation.
Following the incident, the 48-year-old suspect surrendered to the Batasan Police.
He was later identified to be a police officer with the rank of Police Executive Master Sergeant (PEMS) from the Batasan Police Station.
The suspect was turned over to the Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit (CIDU) in Camp Karingal on Friday.
The CIDU confirmed that the shooting incident was caused by road rage, with the victim allegedly stabbing the suspect with a steel pipe that caused him to retaliate.
“Nagkagitgitan sila sa kahabaan ng Tandang Sora [at] 2 beses siyang ginitgit ng kabila… So ang ginawa niya, binlock niya raw yung sasakyan para kumprontahin,” said QCPD CIDU chief Police Major Don Llapitan.
(They fought over the road along Tandang Sora, [and] he was hit by the victim twice… So what he did was that he blocked the car to confront him.)
“Binaba nung pulis ang victim, at pagbaba, tinusok siya ng steel pipe yung pulis. May baril sa katawan, pinutukan niya yung biktima,” he added.
(The police confronted the victim, but when he got down he stabbed the police with a steel pipe. He had a gun on him, so he shot the victim.)
The suspect will be facing charges for Homicide and Attempted Homicide.
“Hindi po natin tinotolerate yung mga ganyan init ng ulo. As much as possible ang mga pulis, maximum tolerance. Lagi natin isa-alang alang na hindi ginagamit ang baril sa ganitong init ng ulo lang,” Llapitan said.
(We don’t tolerate these rage incidents. As much as possible, police should use maximum tolerance. We should always remember that guns should not be used just because you are upset.)
