Motorcycle passenger died after being run over by truck in Manila
A motorcycle taxi passenger died after she was run over by a truck in the City of Manila on Wednesday noon.
According to Raffy Tima’s report in “24 Oras”, the truck overtook the car it was following along Mel Lopez Boulevard in Tondo with a motorcycle running along its side.
The motorcycle hit the side of the truck, causing it to lose balance.
The female passenger of the motorcycle slid underneath the truck and was run over by it. Her head was damaged as her helmet was broken into pieces, the report said.
A witness said the truck just continued to run after the incident.
It was found out later that the motorcycle rider involved in the incident is affiliated with a ride-hailing app.
Meanwhile, responders said the motorcycle rider was shocked to see what happened to his female passenger.
Both the motorcycle rider and truck driver were brought to the Manila Traffic Sector. They declined to give a statement.
The victim was identified as Erika Roa Imago.
The Manila Police District spokesperson Major Philip Ines said that both drivers could be charged for reckless imprudence resulting in homicide, physical injury, and damage to property.
Officials of Barangay 39 are aware that road accidents are common along Mel Lopez Boulevard as the wide lanes allow vehicles to speed up.
“Whenever we use the road along with big trucks, be careful of your blind spots when driving,” said Ines in Filipino. — Vince Angelo Ferreras/BAP, GMA Integrated News
