Unarmed robber takes P20K from courier firm in Navotas

A man was apprehended in Navotas City after robbing a courier company unarmed and taking off with P20,000 in cash.

In Jun Veneracion's "24 Oras" report, the suspect, who was wearing a mask and goggles, entered the establishment around noon, handed a bag to the teller, and declared a hold-up.

“Hindi naman po siya armado, pagpasok ng suspek sa establishment sinabi niya agad akin na yung cash box,” said Police Major Anthony Mondejar of the Navotas Police Station.

(He was not armed, upon entering the establishment, he immediately demanded the cash box.)

He was inside the branch for about 30 seconds before escaping on a motorcycle with the cash. Despite a quick attempt by the teller to chase him, the suspect managed to flee.

Upon reviewing the CCTV footage, the police noticed the suspect's distinctive limp and physical appearance, which led them to identify him.

“Ni-recall nila kung sino regular customer na ganoon maglakad yung built ng katawan at nalocate natin dahil ang isa sa social media friends ng teller na hinoldap ay yung asawa ng mismong suspek natin,” said Mondejar.

(They recalled who the regular customer was with that type of walk and bodybuild, and we were able to locate him because one of the social media friends of the teller who was robbed was the wife of our suspect.)

The police also discovered a connection between the suspect and the victim, as the wife of the teller who was held up was a social media friend of the suspect.

The suspect was arrested early the following day, and police recovered the motorcycle, cash box, and P10,000 cash.

When apprehended, the suspect expressed remorse, explaining his actions by citing personal obligations.

“Masyado ko po kasing dinibdib obligasyon bilang magulang at asawa patawarin nyo ako hindi ako masamang tao,” he said.

(I took my responsibilities as a parent and spouse to heart. Please forgive me, I am not a bad person.)
