2 Chinese kidnap-for-ransom suspects nabbed after fatal crash in escape try
Pasay City police arrested two Chinese nationals involved in a kidnap-for-ransom case after a dramatic chase that resulted in a fatal accident.
In John Consulta’s "24 Oras" report, earlier today, traffic along EDSA-Extension in Pasay was moving as usual when a dark gray vehicle suddenly appeared and collided with a motorcycle.
The impact was so strong that the motorcycle was completely wrecked, and the rider was thrown off. The rider was rushed to the hospital but he succumbed to his injuries.
Authorities later confirmed that the vehicle belonged to the Chinese suspects, who were attempting to escape from law enforcement officers pursuing them for their alleged involvement in a kidnapping case.
According to Pasay City Police Chief Col. Joselito De Sesto, the suspects ignored a red traffic light in their desperation to evade capture, ultimately crashing into the motorcyclist.
"Sa kagustuhang makatakas ng mga suspek, makikitang kahit naka red sila, dere-derecho pa rin sila, hanggang sa masalpok nila yung motor rider. Sinubukan naming dalhin sa ospital pero binawian siya ng buhay," De Sesto explained.
(Despite being at a red light, they recklessly sped through the intersection, leading to the fatal accident. We brought him to the hospital but he died.)
While the two suspects managed to escape from the scene of the accident, they were later apprehended by police. The kidnap victim, another Chinese national, was eventually rescued.
Further investigation led authorities to the suspects’ condominium unit, where police found over 100 grams of ketamine worth more than P700,000.
“Ibinebenta nila ito sa kanila ring kapwa Chinese,” said De Sesto.
(They were selling these drugs to fellow Chinese nationals.)
It was also revealed that two of the suspects had previously been arrested for a kidnap-for-ransom case but were released after the complainants withdrew their complaint.
Pasay police have filed several charges against the suspects, including kidnap-for-ransom, illegal possession of firearms, violation of the Omnibus Election Code, violations under the Dangerous Drugs Act, and reckless imprudence resulting in homicide due to the fatal accident.
