NBI arrests 20 Chinese for alleged scamming; rescues 1 kidnap victim
The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) on Friday announced the arrest of 20 Chinese over alleged scamming activities and the rescue of an individual who was being forced to work against his will in a POGO in Parañaque City.
In a statement, the NBI said it received a complaint from the wife of the victim.
She said her husband worked as a customer service representative for a POGO hub in Parañaque and was being held against his will.
On February 25, operatives of the NBI-Special Task Force raided the office and rescued the victim.
The NBI arrested and will file charges against the alleged captor for violation of Article 267 (Serious Illegal Detention) of the Revised Penal Code.
Meanwhile, during the operation, the NBI said the agents uncovered a fully operational scam hub, where the foreigners were engaged in online scamming.
The NBI said it apprehended these individuals for violation of the Anti Financial Account Scamming Act.
They were presented for inquest before Parañaque prosecutors for alleged violation of Section 4(b)(1) (Social Engineering Schemes) of the Anti-Financial Account Scamming Act (AFASA) in relation to the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012. — Joahna Lei Casilao/BAP, GMA Integrated News
