DILG says driver of abducted Chinese student an accomplice of kidnappers

The slain family driver of the Chinese student who was kidnapped allegedly conspired with the suspects, according to the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).

In Jun Veneracion’s Thursday report on “24 Oras,” DILG Secretary Jonvic Remulla said the claim was based on the driver’s recovered cellphone.

“Yung cellphone ng driver noong binuksan ay lumabas ang mga conversation nila. Kriminal ang kausap mo, kriminal din ang hatol sa iyo para walang weak link pinatay agad ang driver,” Remulla said.

(His cellphone contained his conversations with the kidnappers. He was talking to criminals, so the consequence is also a crime. The driver was killed to sever the weak link.)

The victim’s mother had denied their family’s involvement in Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGO) as their business is e-commerce.

She also alleged the suspects, who were dressed in police uniforms during the abduction, targeted their driver since he often depicted living a rich lifestyle online.

The victim was kidnapped on February 20 after attending class in Taguig City. After a few days, the driver was found dead.

Meanwhile, the victim was found on February 25 along Macapagal Boulevard in Parañaque City.
