2 minors wounded, 7 in custody after stabbing incident outside Pasig school

Two minors were wounded and seven others were placed under custody after a stabbing incident outside a school in Pasig City on Thursday, the Pasig City Police Station said on Friday.

In a statement, Pasig City Police chief Police Colonel Hendrix Mangaldan said the stabbing incident happened around 2:15 p.m., which started from a quarrel among the students inside the campus.

“Ang awayan ng mga estudyante ay humantong sa pagkakakasaksak sa dalawang biktima,” Mangaldan said.

(The students' fight led to the stabbing of the two victims.)

“Napakasensitibo po dahil ang mga sangkot ay puro menor de edad. Magkagayon man, atin pong isinagawa ang nararapat na imbestigasyon at nasa kustodiya na ng Pasig pulis ang pitong menor de edad,” he added.

(It's very sensitive because those involved are all minors. Nonetheless, we conducted the proper investigation and the seven minors are now in the custody of the Pasig police.)

Mangaldan said the police are coordinating with the City Social Welfare and Development Office, Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto, and the school administration in connection with the incident.

Based on the viral video, a group of students were ganging up another student. The fighting stopped when they noticed blood on his uniform, according to a report on Unang Balita on Friday.

Initial investigation showed that two students were wounded due to stabbing. One of them sustained a wound on the chest while the other on the back.

They were brought to a hospital.

The bladed weapon that was supposedly used in the stabbing incident has been recovered, according to the report.

In a bulletin on Thursday, Rizal High School’s principal Richard Santos said the wounded Grade 7 student is “still receiving careful observation” while the Grade 10 student is “currently in stable condition.”

According to him, one person involved in the incident is still at large.

“We understand that this situation is understandably distressing for our entire community. It is reassuring to know that the individuals believed to be involved in the altercation, except for one who is still at large, have been taken into custody by the Pasig City Police,” he said.

Santos said the school’s Child Protection Committee will be convening Friday to talk about necessary responses and interventions to prevent similar incidents in the future.

“To further ensure the safety of our students, we are enhancing our safety measures during dismissal. We have requested increased visibility from Barangay Enforcers and police in the area,” the school principal said.

“Additionally, starting tomorrow, February 21, 2025, we will reinforce our security protocols by implementing bag inspections for all students upon arrival at school,” he added.—Joviland Rita/AOL, GMA Integrated News
