UP Diliman suspends classes for EDSA People Power anniversary

The University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman announced it is suspending classes on February 25, 2025 to commemorate the EDSA People Power revolution anniversary.
In a memorandum issued on February 20 by its Chancellor Edgardo Carlo Vistan II, it said the suspension will cover all undergraduate and graduate classes in face-to-face, synchronous, asynchronous and other modes of teaching/learning.
“Administrators, faculty, Research Extension and Professional Staff, and administrative staff who wish to take part in activities may, if necessary, request a special work arrangement from their supervisor or department chair,” the memo said.
It added that unit heads are also urged to allow personnel, including contractual employees, to join activities related to the commemoration, and accommodate special work arrangement requests.
The UP Integrated School, meanwhile, may proceed with its activities for the UPIS fair on February 25.
Several schools also earlier suspended work and classes for EDSA anniversary.

On February 19, UP president Angelo Jimenez issued an administrative order to the entire UP system encouraging participation in meaningful and peaceful activities that honor the “spirit of unity, freedom, and civil liberties.”
The order said February 25 will be observed as an Alternative Learning Day in the university. Chancellors, however, “shall determine suitable work and class arrangement for their respective campuses to support the commemoration of EDSA People Power Revolution Anniversary.”
UP Cebu earlier called off classes and work on February 25, which it called "a day of commemoration, remembrance and reflection," according to Tug-ani, the university's official student publication.
