Barangay tanod fatally stabbed by alleged e-bike thief in Binondo

A barangay tanod died after an alleged e-bike thief stabbed him in the neck in Binondo, Manila.

According to Marisol Abdurahman’s Monday report on “24 Oras,” victim Peton Biazon responded to an alleged robbery in Barangay 281 early Sunday morning.

Biazon and his fellow barangay personnel were chasing the suspect when they cornered him.

Amid the commotion, the suspect pulled out a sharp object and stabbed Biazon once on the neck.

Biazon was rushed to a hospital but died while being treated.

The suspect immediately fled the scene but was nabbed in a nearby area after police backtracked CCTV footage to locate him.

The police also recovered a screwdriver, the weapon allegedly used by the suspect.

He said he did not plan to go against the tanod, claiming he was just protecting himself.

“Nung pangawalang hataw, siya po ang lumapit. ‘Di ko naman akalain na masusundot s’ya dun sa hawak ko [na screwdriver],” the suspect said.

(When I was attacked for the second time, the tanod approached me. I did not think he would be stabbed by the screwdriver I was holding.)

The suspect asked forgiveness to Biazon’s family.

However, Biazon’s brother said they will file charges against the suspect, who is under the custody of the Manila Police District and is facing murder charges. —Mariel Celine Serquiña/RF, GMA Integrated News
