22-year old woman attacked while walking in Caloocan City

A 22-year old woman walking in Barangay 152 in Caloocan was attacked by a man who allegedly attempted to molest her.

As seen in the CCTV footage, the suspect aggressively lunged at the victim, who was using her phone while walking on Monday night.

The suspect seemed to forcibly grab the blouse of the victim, who was trying to resist the attack until she fell down and dropped her bag and cellphone.

The suspect, however, unrelentingly jumped towards the victim and continued to assault her.

Barangay tanod Reynaldo Alfonso, who was off duty at that time, then intervened since he was in the area.

“Nagbubunuan eh. Akala ko naman mag-asawa kasi ‘di ko naman kilala ‘yung babae at saka ‘yung lalaki, akala ko dayo lang. Tapos akala ko kinukuha ‘yung bag. Nung bumagsak ‘yung bag, hindi naman niya kinukuha,” he recalled.

(They were fighting. I thought it was a quarrel between spouses since I didn’t know the woman and the man. I thought they were outsiders. I later thought he was getting her bag, but he didn’t take the bag when it fell.)

Alfonso said he stepped in when he saw the suspect coming in for a second attack.

“Paglapit ko, tumakbo na siya,” he added.

(When I came closer, he ran away.)

Alfonso said he tried to run after the suspect, but was unable to catch him.

The victim, meanwhile, stood up, grabbed her cellphone and bag, and ran from the scene.

She later reported the incident to barangay and police officers.

“Based doon sa CCTV footage and statement ng witnesses, at statement nung victim natin, pinilit sirain ‘yung damit niya hanggang sa mapatumba siya at noong napatumba siya, sinugod ulit siya at gusto siyang molestiyahin ng ating suspek,” said Bagong Barrio Police Substation Commander Police Captain Mikko Arellano.

(Based on the CCTV footage, and the statement of the witnesses and victim, the suspect tried to ruin the clothes of the victim until she fell on the floor. When she fell, the suspect attacked her again and attempted to molest her.)

Police investigation revealed the suspect and the victim have no ties prior to or outside the attack.

“Random kaya medyo nakaka-bother kaya nga inaano natin ‘yung mga kababayan natin na maging aware sa mga lugar na pupuntahan nila. Huwag lang basta bastang kampante,” Arellano said.

(It was a random incident, which bothered us. That’s why we’re reminding the public to be aware of where you’re going. Don’t be too complacent.)

Arellano said authorities are trying to determine the motive behind the crime.

While already identified, the suspect has gone into hiding, according to the police.

“Nagtatago po ‘yung tao. Identified na po natin ‘yung suspek, so we resulted to regular case filing natin so if he would not appear in court, posible siyang malabasan ng warrant of arrest,” Arellano said.

(He’s in hiding. But we identified him already, so we resulted to regular case filing. If he will not appear before the court, it’s possible a warrant of arrest will be issued against him.)

The suspect may face complaints for acts of lasciviousness, sexual harassment and physical injuries. — BAP, GMA Integrated News
