2 house helpers die in Binondo fire
Two people were killed after a fire broke out in a condominium building along Ongpin Street in Binondo, Manila early Wednesday morning.
The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said the two fatalities were both household helpers who were trapped in a burning unit on the 35th floor, based on a report of Jhomer Apresto on Super Radyo dzBB.
In a separate report on Unang Balita, Apresto said the owner of the unit sought help from the fire personnel and were able to save two of their relatives but failed to get the household helpers.
"Ayon sa may-ari, 'yung lalaki, nakalabas siya nung magkaroon ng usok, nung sunog. Siguro nagpanic na, hindi na niya na-ano 'yung mga kasamahan niya na gisingin," Fire Senior Inspector Cesar Babante said.
Some of the residents in the building said the fire started when they were sleeping past 3 a.m. First alarm was raised at 3:41 a.m.
The fire was declared out at 4:51 a.m.
The fire did not spread to other units and the residents were allowed to return to the building after the BFP secured the area.
The reason for the fire is still being investigated.
The damage was approximately worth P4.5 million, according to the BFP.—Giselle Ombay/AOL, GMA Integrated News
