Manila to impose liquor ban on Thursday, January 9
The City of Manila announced on Wednesday that it will impose a liquor ban on Thursday, January 9 in observance of the Feast of the Jesus Nazareno.
The liquor ban will be imposed within the 500-meter radius of Quiapo Church and all the paths of the “Traslacion”, or the procession of the 400-year-old black image of Jesus Nazareno from Quirino Grandstand to Quiapo Church.
“Whereas, to promote peace and order during the commemoration of the Feast of the Black Nazarene, it is necessary to prohibit the sale of liquor and consumption of intoxication and alcoholic beverages within the 500-meter radius of Quiapo Church and all paths of the Traslacion in Manila City whether public or private taking into consideration the somberness of the occasion and in light of the participation of the general public, not just Manilenos,” according to Executive Order No. 1 issued Mayor Honey Lacuna.
All law enforcement officers are ordered to strictly implement the ban.
The Manila Police District also said earlier that a gun ban will take place from January 8 to 11.

The Feast of Jesus Nazareno is a 10-day activity which started from December 31, 2024 and will culminate on January 9, 2025 with the Traslacion or the procession of the image.
Over 10,000 uniformed personnel will be deployed on the feast day to provide security.
