Quiapo Church hopes fewer devotees climb andas in Nazareno 2025

With just a few days before the Traslacion, the Minor Basilica and National Shrine of Jesus Nazareno hopes that fewer devotees would climb the andas or carriage that will bear the image of Jesus Nazareno on January 9, Thursday.

“Ngayon ho, sinisikap namin na mas mababa pa ho. Sana mga 20 na lamang ang makakaakyat diyan sa dalawang gilid,” Alex Irasga, technical and procession management adviser of Quiapo Church, said in an interview on “Balitanghali” on Tuesday.

(Right now, we are working on further  lowering the number of devotees who will climb the carriage of the image of Jesus Nazareno. Hopefully, only around 20 of them will go up on the two sides of the carriage.)

Irasga noted that less than 30 devotees went up the carriage in 2024, fewer compared to the previous years before the COVID-19 pandemic.

He added no one climbed the truck where the image of Jesus Nazareno was placed during the December 31 Thanksgiving procession.

Quiapo Church officials earlier said the carriage of the image of Jesus Nazareno will have new features such as a sunroof, blowers to address moisture, and stronger materials.

The traditional route will be used for this year's Traslacion, which will begin in the Quirino Grandstand and end at the Quiapo Church.
